September 24th I celebrated my 27th Birthday- I had a lovely weekend and I was very spoilt so Lets jump into the lovely gifts I received, First off from my lovely husband I got, two John Rocha Dresses (The navy polka dot one above) and this casual purple one below

The service was amazing, and our room was breathtaking! It was so romantic- I have a little video of the room to share with you

He also got me a holy book on St.Rita and three nighties! My mum and dad got me two new pillows and a new duvet which is something that I really wanted and needed! I got a lovely pair of ear rings and necklace as well as a homemade jewerly box from my sister and some scented candles from my brother. From my father and mother in law I received a Juicy Couture pendent and a lovely craft book on crochet and knitted blankets.

Hello everyone,
What a weekend I have had!! I have many photos to share with you - so lets get started:

FRIDAY

On Friday my husband Morgan, brother Ant, sister Shauna and myself all attended the Galway Utd match, this match was a great as not only did we finish on a draw but the Ambassador of Korea was visiting the club too- afterwards we went along to a hotel for some food and drink and who did I spy! Micheal D Higgins who is in the running to be the next President of Ireland!

You have my vote Mick!

SATURDAY
During the week, My husband got home from work and went and made me a cup of tea and brought me in a lovely scone - on the plate where two tickets to see my favorite band The High Kings and how excited was I!

I couldn't wait as I have never seen them live before! On Saturday Morgan and I wrapped up against the cold and wind and made our way to Salthill. By the time we got there we were cold, wet and tired as it was gale force winds! Morgan went to the toilet and as I waited for him Martin, Finbarr, Darren and Brain all walked by and my expression was something like this! ;)

I was too shy to say Hi and was kicking myself afterwards as I knew I would always regret not meeting them. anyway I insisted that we get there an hour and a half early to be sure to get a good seat! we were the only ones there until 15minutes before the door opened! so we were sat in the very front row!

To say the show was wonderful, is an understatement! I really enjoyed it so much, The lads really knew how to work the crowd!

For those of you who havent heard of the High Kings, they are a group who sing and play traditional Irish music from years gone by - just my cup of tea!

At the concert there as a great mix of people, young and older all enjoyed the "auld" songs, and at one point some lads aged between 19-23 where up dancing and being good sports, at the end of the night they even let one of the lads up to sing with them! The couple I was sat beside told me at the end of the night that they flew all the way from Germany just to see the band live!

When they finished up they told us they would be hanging around to sign CDs and I was thrilled because even though I had messed up a chance to see them and maybe get a photo before the concert, at least I would walk away with a signed CD-
So pushing and elbowing through the crowd we finally got to the table -

So I first met Martin - what a lovely man! he was so interested to find out if I enjoyed the show and even though there was a huge crowd waiting behind me I felt very comfortable to say hi, and I even asked could I get a photo! so he brought me behind the table...

After we had our photo taken Martin told me I could make my way through the other members- and as they where all busy signing CDs - I just asked them all "Can I grab you and smile?" needless to say that got their attention!

I came away so happy and excited and just have to thank my husband Morgan for such a wonderful night - I have been feeling down lately over something personal and he really lifted my spirits - and so I have this to say...

Last week a journalist from The Sunday World came and interviewed me to do with the lovely stitch group i started CafeCreate and today the story was in the paper! we got a great write up and by clicking on the above image you can read it also :)

Tonight my thoughts are with everyone who lost someone in 9/11 May They Rest in Peace, I always think back to where I was on that day - Geography Class 3PM, the teacher came in and told us that a plane had crashed into a tower and at the time I thought it was just an accident - after school I met Morgan and the both of us just sat in shock. I always remember my mum called me and asked me to come home as she felt uneasy and just wanted us all under the same roof.... It was only that night after watching the news that I watched everything unfold.... a sad sad day in our history.

Take care everyone and tonight of all nights hold your loved ones close and say a prayer no matter what your religion - let us just pray for a better tomorrow

Today Elizabeth and Thady, my in laws took Morgan and I on a drive to Ashford Castle in Cong Co.Mayo as we drove into the beautiful city we were so happy to see that we had visited during The Quite Man festival as it was here that the John Wayne movie was filmed!

we grabbed a bite to eat in a lovely bar/B&B, in Cong the one thing I noticed is how well kept it is, outside each building baskets full of roses hand - it is so beautiful

Once we finished our lunch we headed to the stunning castle, Ashford Castle is surrounded by such beauty - it was first built in 1228

The Quite Man has always been a film close to my heart and for one reason only Maureen O'Hara! I love this woman, What a surprise for us that when walking through the castle gates we were met by a parade and the woman herself!

She was just as stunning today as ever! it was such a surprise as we didnt know she was going to be there! below is a clip for anyone who hasnt seen it yet-

we also saw Dana too,for those who do not know her she became famous in 1970 for winning the eurovision for Ireland

Crocheting the Grandparents! and more Crocheted Babies!

Hi Everyone, How is your week going so far? Mine has been full of .... yes you guessed it! Crochet! My Granddad was visiting us from Manchester last week, while sitting he was watching me crochet with great interest and asked "So, would ye over throw out an ald cap'pin for me?" to which I said no problem! so here it is!

Once it was finished though I thought, "I cant post this without sending one to Nanna either!" so know they have a His and Her set :)

I was blessed this month in the fact that a lovely woman on Ravelry "Raked" me a pattern that I was longing for, for those of you who dont know what it is to be Raked - it is when somebody does a Random Act of Kindness for you with no interest of anything in return- and in return if you can- Rak someone else in return! Below is my finished Woodland Long Elf Hat

The roses and leafing is a pain to sew on - but well worth it!

Also I took part in a lovely pattern swap and received the Fancy Floral Diaper Cover and Headband notes and made this beauty! I have to say that both patterns where so easy to read and follow and I will use them often!

I have been very creative lately and the sense of pride in finishing alot of my projects has been wonderful, I would love to share with you those projects now...

My Husband Morgan, is on the management team for our local football club Galway Utd - this season has been a nightmare for us, as the team has lost each home match, and it is not in lack of skill as some of the players are great! but in my opinion the person in charge last year really wreaked things financially and left the club struggling to survive, Its something that has made me really angry as these people who are in part responsible for the state of the club today retreated into the shadows leaving a group of volunteers like my husband to take all the knocks from fans and papers and also left them to worry about where the next source of money is coming from! They do so much trying to raise money and giving their free time just to help at the matches and collect money on the streets of Galway - but it saddens me to see that the Players are not out helping and that the manager when interviewed complains that he hasn't been given enough money to buy new players, never in any interview has he said that the management team are doing a good job.... I feel that maybe if he got on to the players to take part in the club they would have more heart in the games. I go to the matches and I have seen that the fans are there but that they feel like the match is lost before it begins - so I decided to make this for myself to show my pride in the management committee of 18 talented men who give their time and effort to the day to day running of the football club. I also crocheted myself a hat from lovely yarn I got on a holiday in Cork, it is my own pattern - and I hand stitch crystals into each front post row.

I am sorry that I have not blogged for almost two months, I have been quite ill with a infection and it took alot out of me- but I am on the mend and after a biopsy hope to have answers in the next coming weeks.

Where would I be without my loving husband Morg, my family or my best friend Melanie looking after me?! Thanks guys!

Hi everyone - a few weeks ago I was contacted by journalist Mark Keenan of the Sunday Times newspaper, who wanted to know more about CafeCreate and about my crochet designs, he spoke to me at length and asked me to email him photos of myself and the group, which I did - when the article came out I saw he didn't use the photos and misquoted me but at least the stitch group got some free publicity

As you will see from the close up below after a half hour conversation not much of what I said was published, ha ha! it makes me see that you cant believe everything you read in the papers!!

I would like to share with you a lovely gift I received from a Co- Worker yesterday, Maggie spent a few weeks back in her home Poland and while there she picked me up so very unusual nail polish by Inglot,

First what you do is apply your base colour, I used turquoise, and then you apply the Inglot polish, mine is pink- as the pink goes over the turquoise it cracks leaving the below effect on your nails! I love it!

Craft wise I have finished two sewing projects at the moment, I decided to make my husband a little pack that he could carry his pencils around in.

At this moment in time I am in a wonderful mood, the sun has been shining all day and I have gotten lots of washing hung and dried on the line- I also have many craft projects to share with you- so lets get started! but first please make sure you are sat comfortably and that you have a cool drink in your hands!
A few weeks ago I blogged telling you that I was busy designing my first knit wear and finally I can reveal it!

Oh You! Finger-less Mittens

Made with Donegal Tweed wool, these mittens are warm as well as colourful!

The wrist is knit up with a lace stitch

Finished with pale blue ribbon to compliment the blue speck in the wool.

Knitted Bumbled Baby Hat

On Saturday at the Stitch Meeting, the lovely Aga sat with me and showed me how to knit a hat! I was so nervous as I had never knitted with FIVE needles before! but with a good teacher I was soon flying at it!

This hat was just to pratice getting the hang of it, I am delighted to say that soon I will be able to knit my husband as many hats as he would like!

I decorated with a crochet flower and a vintage bee button!

At the stitch group yesterday, a member Juila asked me if I knew where she could get a holder for her knitting needles- so this morning I decided to make a gift for her:

Theres not only panels for her needles but also a crochet hook section!

Its sewn up in a patchwork design, I hope she will like it!!

My god daughters Mum and dad are expecting a new baby, a little girl! and they have already picked a name- Josie. isnt that lovely! so I have been making a little knitted outfit-

Today I made two alter runners for the chapel in work, I loved sewing these up as I felt very close to God.

Now let me share with you a project I finished a while ago- The Ava Wrap from my crochet vintage book, I made this as a birthday girt for a very wonderful friend and have not given it... I hope they like it as it was a lot of work!

I just finished a a bridesmaids cape, today. Crocheted with a 70% mohair 30% silk yarn

I have been very stressed and upset all week and so the extra crafting really helped to take my mind of things and relax, Isnt it wonderful that working with ones hands can have sooth your worries!

In other news I have been enjoying my new membership at a local gym, and decided to treat myself to the Ipod Nano, in pink of course!

It has all my favorite albums on it now and I have been really into Adele lately!

Hello everyone, While on a visit to my best friend Melanie's Blog I saw she did a really interesting post about her week and decided to do the same... So sit back and relax with a cuppa while I take you on a tour of my week!

Last Saturday I called in on my beautiful God daughter Erica as she celebrated her First Holy Communion here we are below, isn't she cute? I am wearing an outfit from New Look, can you tell Ive lost weight? the skirt is actually a size down from usual!

I also got a lovely gift from Morgan last week- check out my new PINK blackberry!!

On Wednesday My friend Sarah turned 23! aww still a baby! our friend Jana decided to throw her a BBQ and invited a few of us from work (this is how we all know each other) I went along sure that I would stay for an hour and then leave - I got there before 5pm and left after 11.30! It was a great night, however there is always one that ends up drinking a bit too much and ends up locking them self in the bathroom while one Mrs Crochet bangs from the other side needing to pee!

Thursday was Morgans Birthday we celebrated by going to town and having a nice lunch in my favourite cafe Cupan Tae, I recently gave them a gift of a crochet tea cup can you spot it in this picture?

We also stopped in Judy Greens where Morgan got me these amazing vintage gloves... remind me whose birthday was it again?

in the afternoon we stopped in the cinema to watch Thor, Morgan was really looking forward to it, I enjoyed it but thought so parts could have been better

On Friday I held a big birthday lunch for Morgan and invited his family and mine, in fact there was 12 people in our home, that has been the biggest amount I have cooked for so far in our tiny home!

Morgan enjoyed all his family being there, although after all the cooking and baking and being left to the washing up, I wont be rushing to do it again any time soon!

On Saturday I went on an outing with the women of CafeCreate, we went to Castlebar for the craft festival and unlike the year before it rained and rained and rained! we were soaked!

we all stopped in the cafe and had some tea to warm us before checking out the stalls

Our bus driver Ollie was a lovely man and on the way home stopped in a small Irish pub, where it didn't take some women long to catch the eye of a few Limerick men! but I wont name names .... (cough Kathleen, Sharon, Noreen, cough!)

After having a rest at home that evening it was time to get dressed and go to Lisa Hannigans gig in the Roisin Dubh (pronounced RO-SHIN DOVE), Galway - for those of you who might not have heard Lisa before, check out this video!

Today my little brother Antony turns 16! So I would like to dedicate this post to him.

Happy Birthday Ant!

Antony is such fun to be around, he has a great sense of humour and always knows what to say to make me smile, he isnt like your average lad - he is very caring and hates the thought of anyone being mistreated or bullied, I am proud to say he is not someone who would give into peer preasure - as I say he is not a follower!

He loves his music - mostly rap at the moment - and he is mad on horror films, I remember I decided I would watch "Drag me to Hell" with him and a long story short the night was spent with us grabbing eachother and trying to scare the other to death!

I am very close to my brother and sister and would do anything for them, they make me so proud- and this is my way of telling Ant how proud he makes me everyday, Happy Birthday. I have hardly any photos of him as you can see hes a little camera shy ;)

Crochet, New Clothes and KNITTING!!

Hi There! what lovely weather we have been having in Ireland at the moment, it lifts my spirits and makes everything seem light and easy, I have been crocheting and ... wait for it .... KNITTING! last week I watched a "how to" video on youtube and have been knitting since! but first let me share with you my latest crochet hat

Also I am a member of "hat a month" group on Ravelry, so for the month of May we had this lovely pattern to follow LINK below is my take on it - as you will see my flower is much different then the one in the pattern, I designed the flower a few days ago and wanted to use mine instead

Now I must prepare you ... are you sitting down? yes ... well next I am about to show you my first knitted projects!!

I still have along way to go on knitting but at least I can do the basic stitches!! Yesterday I went to town with my sister Shauna and while there I picked up the following:

Ive broken a world Record! well.. With 1146 other People!

August 2009, in Oregon, Knitters from all over the USA gathered and with over 900 people, broke the Guinness World Record for the most knitters in one place -

April 2011, in Roscommon, Ireland - Michelle from MichelleMadeThis worked hard and organised for knitters to try to break that record ....

I traveled down from Galway to The Lamb Festival with my little sister Shauna (who took up knitting only 6days before the event!), Michelle, Jen, Anne, Elizabeth and Sharon from my stitch group Cafecreate you can find us HERE, Once there we said a quick hello to Michelle and regestered I was lucky number 819!

There was a little waiting time before the record attempt so we sat and .... yes thats right Knitted!

What a magical day - today Prince William of England married Kate Middleton - I was working in the home today and decided to throw a little wedding party for the residents - they all had the English flags and waited with me to catch sight of the dress!

and for me it did not disappoint! What a stunning choice - elegant and in my eyes Kate looked every once like Grace Kelly - what do you think?

and I must say I was in awe of the choice to have the bridal party wearing white!

It is said that when Prince Harry saw Kate walking up the aisle he turned to William and whispered "she looks stunning", then when William saw her he told her she looked lovely, very Beautiful ... Aww!

After the wedding Prince William took his new wife out in his sports car to wave to the thousands there, I think after watching the wedding I like them even more, as they have brought something "real" to the Royal family

and finally I got to see the second dress that Kate changed into, and I think I have found my style icon!

Easter Crochet and a Crazy Cat Lady!

Hello everyone - I hope you had a lovely and peaceful Easter, It has been such a long week for me, I spent Monday and Tuesday working on some projects for a upcoming fair that I was going to attend at the weekend: I decided to make these crosses to celebrate Easter

I received very sad news which put everything under a dark cloud, so I didnt crochet anything else for the fair and instead decided not to attend, as I had had a very emotional week attending the wake and funeral of a friends wife, I pray for her and her husband and children, may she rest in peace. Amen.

On Easter Sunday We spent the day with family - I made these egg cozies and gave them as gifts with egg cups

Today I was off work and had a very lazy day watching movies and eating, but in the evening I decided to crochet my cat Hope a little jacket, (does this make me a crazy cat lady now?)

Bacon and Cabbage, more to the point- my mums bacon and cabbage is the best in Galway - so if you are ever on holiday over here - I would like to invite you all to my mothers house for dinner! (she wont mind, honest!) ;)

The Irish weather, Ok the rain! I love that it can be a wonderfully sunny day in October and yet snow and rain in March! crazy!

I have always loved "old" music- but a love of mine is the old Irish songs - the above video is of one of my favorites, I love it as it is set in my home town of Galway - My grandmother is currently visiting us from Manchester and already I have a book of lyrics for when we get together to have a singsong!

No matter where in the world you go - when people know your from Ireland they become ten times more friendly! it must be because us Irish are great craic! ;)

Grannies at the Circus,Crochet and St. Patrick's Day

Hello everyone,
how has your week been? I have been so busy, It started on Friday, The Circus came to town and kindly sent the nursing home free tickets - so five of us staff members gave up our Friday evening and stepped forward to take some residents! The weather was horrid and before we even got into the tent we were covered in mud! Once the show started we really enjoyed it and the residents couldnt take their eyes off the acts - below is the video I took while there

This weekend I have been a lean mean crochet machine! I have had a back log of projects I needed to finish - so I got down to business and today I finished four! here they are (let me know which is your favorite!):

Yesterday I treated myself to a netting fork and this morning while learning how to do hairpin lace I created a neck-warmer/headband - finished with a little wooden button

A friend of mine recently had a baby boy, so cute! so I crocheted him a little waist coat - the picture does not do the yarn justice - so first here is the yarn I used

I used three wooden bark buttons to finish it off, I cant wait to see the little man in this!

21st Party

Hello everyone -

Last night we attended my husbands sister's 21st party - It was held in a castle, her birthday was in December but due to poor weather and people not attending it got push back to now, I thought the castle looked a little spooky at night - what do you think?

My Pretty Dress and Wii Fit

What a weekend I have had! I was so happy to see that I had been given extra money in my bank account as part of my tax back - So Morgan and I went to town to treat ourself- something that does not happen often - First off I went dress shopping - It is my sisters confirmation in March and I wanted a pretty dress - and boy did I find one!!

So what you think? I must say when I tried this on I felt transported back to a small American town in 1952!

After much thought I also got the Wii Fit plus! and I can say honestly I love it, it is great at working you out and so motivating - since yesterday I have done an hour on it, My husband had also had a work out on it too and we both know we will keep it up :)

Weight wise, I have lost 3.5 pounds and aim to lose another 3.5 this week giving me in total half a stone :)

Valentines Day, Hearts, Sewing and Bloopers!

Happy Valentines Day everyone -

I hope today that you have spent time with the people you love,

I have had a wonderful few days with my Valentine Morgan, we had dinner out yesterday and went to see Tangled in the cinema

It was really very good, and we saw it in 3D, it was very cute, funny and romantic but is it just me or are Disney characters looking more and more like my husband?!

This Valentine I have created two new patterns Be my Valentine Garland and Valentine Wreath so I hope you like them! if you do make any of my patterns please let me know s I would LOVE to see them :)

So Morgan and I have been an item for years in fact - this is our 11th Valentines Day together! over the years we have done everything you can do and bought everything you can buy! so we decided that this year we would simply hand make our gifts - and so began "His Blanket"

A patchwork blanket - over 6foot and three inches in height!

Each patch has a special meaning

On the four corners I stitched little tassels, he loved the blanket and we stayed cuddled under it all last night while watching telly - I am so very proud of the work I put into this blanket and I would like to thank Morgans aunt Mary for all the help she gave to me,

In work this week I worked on making hearts with the residents and they really did a wonderful job!

Today I started work a little later then usual and when I walked in, there to greet me at the reception was a dozen red roses! I really do have a very special husband.

Free Pattern Valentine Wreath

Valentine Wreath Pattern

By Nina O'Brien

You will need:

4mm crochet hook
1 polystyrene ring
1 packet of material flowers
50g pink yarn
80g white yarn
sewing needle
thread
ribbon

Taking the white yarn, tie a knot and begin wrapping it around the polystyrene ring until fully covered
next wrap the ribbon around, here you can use the clothing pins to pin it in place, make sure to keep pins at the back out of site.
seperate your flowers and using the clothing pins, tack them into place
now make the hearts, and sew into place

Heart (make 2)

Begin by chaining 6
Single crochet into second chain from the hook
Single crochet in each chain across, (there should be five single crochets)
Turn.
Chain one, single crochet in each space across.
Turn and repeat
Make sure to do five single crochet rows.
Now we are at the end of the fifth row, after making the last single crochet, you will chain 1
Make 6 double crochets, into half way point at the side of your rows
Slip stitch into last space
Make 6 double crochets, chain 1’s,
Slip stitch into last space and tie off and sew in loose ends.

Free Crochet Pattern, Valentine Garland

Be My Valentine Garland

This pattern is very simple and open to your own creativity.

You will need:

2 meters of white ribbon
2 meters of red ribbon
50g of white yarn
50g of red yarn
A sewing needle
A darning needle
Sewing thread
Buttons to decorate
Size 4 crochet hook and a size 6 crochet hook

Colours are open to change, use what suits you-

Heart 1(make 3, 5 or 7)

For different size hearts just change the size of the hook, make hearts in both colours:

Begin by chaining 6
Single crochet into second chain from the hook
Single crochet in each chain across, (there should be five single crochets)
Turn.
Chain one, single crochet in each space across.
Turn and repeat
Make sure to do five single crochet rows.
Now we are at the end of the fifth row, after making the last single crochet, you will chain 1
Make 6 double crochets, chain 1’s, (double crochet, chain 1) into half way point at the side of your rows
Slip stitch into last space
Make 6 double crochets, chain 1’s,
Slip stitch into last space and tie off and sew in loose ends.

My Home, Crochet Prizes, Teeth and Rings

Hello Everyone, I hope your having a lovely Sunday, I would like to take this time to invite you all to a tour of my home in the video below, so lets get started and I will put the kettle on:

Please excuse the puffiness of my face, On Friday I had my second wisdom tooth removed and it was a BIG one he he, but I have to say the dentist I go to is wonderful and in just five minutes the tooth was gone- it makes me smile to remember how nervous I was in the days leading up to it- to the point that my talented husband made and sent me this to relax me

I have just found out that I was a lucky winner (along with everyone else, thank you Sarah!!) on Sarah's blog, the prize is a wonderful pattern to this:

Isn't it lovely? I cant wait to make a start on it, when I saw this it took my breath away, I think it is so classical and vintage.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of sharing the afternoon with Aga - I know Aga through the Stitch'n'bitch group we attend, well yesterday Aga came over to my home, we had a nice chat and a cuppa and while she and Morgan talked over some business I prepared dinner - homemade macaroni and cheese with a side salad, followed by a chocolate crumble dessert -

Before I go let me share with you my ring collection- these are rings that Morgan gave me for gifts/ engagement/ wedding etc ...

The Promise Ring: The first ring Morgan gave me was for Valentines Day 2001 a gold ring with a diamond chip resting on a silver pillow, he told me it was a "promise" ring and the next ring he would give me would be an engagement one, I also gave Morgan a ring on this day, a silver thumb ring with the engraving N+M Forever

The Engagement Ring: we got engaged in November 2002, the ring was so simple and pretty - a gold band with one diamond solitaire, Perfect. we got engaged very young at 17, we both knew it would be a long engagement but met anger and disapproval with my husbands family, in fact they never accepted the engagement and so we were never congratulated by them, I understand now that they felt worried but it was very hurtful, thankfully we got plenty of support from our friends and my family, the engagement ring got us through many hard times and a long distance relationship lasting 3 years.

The Eternity Ring: Morgan gave me this ring for Christmas 2007, I was in shock by its beauty a gold band with three diamonds! it touched my heart, still to this day whenever I wear it people always compliment it

The Wedding Band: We went shopping for our wedding rings together, we both wanted something simple and timeless, we chose to have plain gold bands, I remember the day after the wedding, watching my new husband as he talked to different people, looking so smart in his new suit and the ring shining on his hand, I was so proud!

The Sapphire Ring: given to me Christmas 2010, When I was small I always wanted a ring like this, to me it was a real princess ring, I told this to Morgan after I wrote this post LINK as you can see it is very similar to Kate Middleton's engagement ring, on Christmas morning, I unwrapped all my gifts from Morgan and when we were done he told me to look in the tree and there on a branch was the ring!

I have been treated so well by my husband, I don't mean by what he buys for me- although he buys me so many pretty things, but by the way he treats me, with such love and respect- I am a very blessed woman

Yarn Shop, New Baby and Sewing Kittens!!

Happy Sunday everyone,

hope you are having a lovely weekend, I am dreading going back to work, even though the mornings are getting brighter it is horrid going in when all I would love to do is stay at home and create, but oh well bills have to be paid and the rent aint free! thats life, On Friday I was in our LYS with my sister, and while I did all the "boring" stuff she went around snapping pictures, so would you like to see where I buy all my yarn/ material and bits?... of coarse you would!

Crochet Fish, Floral Fancies and Vintage Sewing Machines!

Hello everyone, how has your week been?, I have been so busy crafting all week and have made some wonderful projects, I have been so excited to share them with you, so lets get started:

After seeing a lovely fish hat on Libbys blog I decided to design and crochet one also - here it is below

I got the material from the lovely shop PippaBlue, I love this shop so much, and was very proud of my skirt, I wore it on Saturday and got many compliments!

Talking about sewing machines I want to share with you a longing I have had for so long, I have always wanted to own a old singer machine - the black metal one! so many people own them and have them on display, and I always thought - If I had one I would have it on show in my future craft room,anyway my mother in law Elizabeth heard about this and this morning gave me a lovely gift of this:

When my husbands grandparents got married they moved to America, My husbands grandmother, Angela who was only 22 at the time received this machine from her aunt Mary over there it was 1960, it turns out her aunt had had the machine for years but had never used it as she was "keeping it", Angela worked hard with this machine, making clothing for her children, when they returned to Ireland the machine was sent with their belongings by boat as the family took the plane home to Ireland, Years later Angela gave the machine to her daughter Elizabeth who then knowing my love for them - gave it to me today... and guess what? It still works, I have decided to get it serviced though to make sure it stays in good condition, after looking into it we found out the machine itself was made in 1951, isnt it beautiful!

I am currently crocheting a project from the book Crochet that fits by Mary Jane Hall and was delighted when I saw she had featured me here LINK

Oh yes and my PIF package will be going out to Andrea from lushstuff! I will contact you, Andrea for your address and will send it to you ASAP, so far I have 5 packages to send this week!! and I have been delayed so much in sending out three for months, two to England and the other to New York but I promise those packages WILL be sent!!

Crochet Give Away

Hi guys, how has your week been so far? I want to start this post by saying thank you to Sarah for awarding me the stylish blogger award! what a lovely treat!

With the award comes the fact that I must tell you 7 things about myself, so lets begin ...

Neen is not my real name but 90% of people only know me as that.
I would love to spend one whole day in a spa- being pampered and rubbed and relaxed
I sing in my sleep
I do not trust people easily, If someone hurts me I usually step back from that person and cut contact
I am desperate to become a mother
I love clipping other peoples toenails!
I really want a craft room.

So I got one "love" themed project done - I made a heart shaped table mat and coaster. I was thrilled with how easy the pattern was

I also never got a chance to show you the ear rings that I made for my secret Santa partner Kym - it really made me smile that as we exchanged gifts we had both crocheted for each other ear rings! the saying comes to mind "Great minds think a like, and fools seldom differ!"

Last night while watching Quantum Leap I decided to try a pattern from one of my favorite books "Crochet that Fits" by designer Mary Jane Hall,

what do you think of my flared 1940s hat?

I was delighted with the pattern, it was very easy to follow and Mary Jane writes instructions so beautifully! I then decided to make these lovely slippers also from the book, for my little sister Shauna

In my opinion every crocheter should own a copy of this book, the patterns are so different and wrote simply,

I also received a lovely PIF package from Clara of Claras Crochet Room

She made me a beautiful Christmas table runner, Christmas decoration and a bottle cooler- Thanks Clara!

Lean Mean Crafting Machine!

Hi everyone - I am pleased to say I am fully recovered now and after a week of sick leave I kept myself busy by crafting and watching Quantum Leap! I use to watch this when I was alot younger then I am now!(I feel old!) but thanks to Graham for lending me the entire box set I have started watching them from the beginning and love it!

and I have so much to show you all, this Christmas in CafeCreate we all took part in Secret Santa and will be exchanging gifts this Saturday - I got partnered with the lovely Kym, the rules of the gift is to hand craft something and to buy a gift at a ten euro limit so I decided to make her a craft purse, somewhere that she could keep her crochet hooks, tape, pins etc... Kym will be returning to Thailand in a couple of months so I wanted something to remind her of her friends in Galway

I lined it with some pretty seasonal fabric

I also made her this:I decided to keep in the same theme of things and decided to sew her a crochet hook holder

I also managed to crochet a couple of hats, I made the hat below for the Harry Potter group I'm in on Ravelry, we were asked to make something mushroom inspired ...

I also made a miniature mushroom for my husband, the hat was Inspired by toadstool mushrooms!

I also made the below hat as a gift for a girl in the states, I really enjoyed making this pattern up using front and back post stitches to give it some texture

The last thing I have to show you is something I have been working on since before Christmas, I started off making the Holy Family as a decoration for Morgan

Neens Week PART 1 Handmade Gifts

Part 1

Hello everyone, I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2011! Before I get into telling and showing you all about My past week, let me say that this will be a long post so I will put it up in two parts! This part will be aimed at the homemade gifts I made which I couldn't show you sooner as the recipients would have seen
It was very important to me to make as many gifts as I could- not to save money- because lets face it, all crafters know that half the time you spend more money on the material then on a usual shop bought gift, and then add the time and work you spend putting into it.....

I will start with my husbands sister, Genny's gift - after making a homemade Christmas wreath from a tutorial from MichelleMadeThis, I decided to also make them with the residents from the nursing home where I work (BELOW)

When Genny saw them, she commented how great they would look as a ear ring holder to hang in her bedroom,that weekend I got to work on buying all the materials I would need, including ALOT of ear rings! I worked really hard on this

My next project was for my husbands grandmother Terri or Nanna as we call her, I cant describe how fond I am of her and what a lovely, honest person she is, from day one she has made me feel so welcome and so apart of the family - this Christmas we were kindly invited to spend the day and have dinner with Nanna and my husbands aunt Mary- it was my first time ever not being with my family on Christmas Day but I consider both Nanna and Marys house as a home away from home so I was very comfortable and happy.

This year I wanted to make Nanna something warm and cosy and when I saw the material up at the stitching show a few months back, I knew it would be perfect!

she really seemed to like it, so I am delighted.

Before Christmas I asked my best-friend Melanie to do a Christmas Hat a-long with me - so we both got to crocheting, when my husbands Godmother asked if she could commission four seasonal hats also, I thought "two birds, one stone" and got to making these four adorable hats for four adorable girls, and instead of Dolores paying for them I gave them to her as an early gift what do you think?

unfortunately I have been on bed rest as it turned out I got a bad infection in my cells and unless I wanted to be in hospital for the new year I had to get alot of rest while on 6 antibiotics a day! I am still not doing the best but I'm so happy to know why I was feeling so poorly- also when your lay up in bed you really do see who your friends are- I was surprised that people I have been there for and helped out in so many ways couldn't be bothered to even send a text and see how I was, and as awful as this sounds and so not in with the spirit of Christmas I will be taking a step back from them, Well its good to get that off my chest!Rant Finished.

Crochet, Mittens, Christmas Handbags and My Grandmother!

I hope you have all had a wonderful week, I am feeling much better- last week I found out the reasoning behind my sickness - infected wisdom tooth! so the wonderful dentist pulled the tooth and after a week of feeling bruised and swollen I am back to my usual self.
Craft wise I have been busy crocheting some extra warm mittens for my husband Morgan - I brought him last week into our LYS Pippa Blue and told him to pick out what yarn he wanted them made from, he was stuck between two colours, Grey or Blue - in the end he declared "Sure, just make me one of each!" As you will see - that's exactly what I did!

I finished them last night and was delighted that they do in fact fit like a glove! This morning I decided to give making myself a pair of mittens ago also - although I decided not to go down the crochet road as it would take some time so instead I sewed some using warm fleece

I made a couple of mistakes but all in all they are so snug and comfy to wear, and took less then half an hour to make! I think I shall be making a few more of these!!

I want to share with all you women out there a great tip in turning your everyday handbag into a festive creation! and all you need is a Christmas decoration! simply attach the decoration onto your bag using nothing more then a safety pin and there you go - strut your stuff around the town wearing something Santa himself would be proud of!

While on the subject of Christmas, I am busy trying to do as many handmade items as I can for gifts - of course there will be those that aren't "craft worthy" but for the rest that appreciate it - there will be lots to go around (I hope!) first on the list was a crochet hat for my beautiful grandmother Bride (Dads Mother) as you can see my grandmother is a stunner

and so I wanted to make her two hats,
1. a casual, can wear to the shops, everyday wear hat.
2. a fancy, can wear going out hat
So I decided to work on the fancy one first and here it is, kindly modeled for me by my sister in law Gen

I hope she likes it, I used a very soft yarn in brown and also some gold thread to give it that something "extra" - I have been doing alot of crochet today and will post some more on that during the week - until then - have a lovely Monday and keep warm and happy xxx

Christmas Trees, Santa Cat and Wreaths!

Hello everyone, first off let me say sorry for the lack of blog posts - I have been feeling very under the weather and lately when I have been getting in from work Morgan has had the heated blanket on the bed and I just rest all evening! to kick this post off I will be taking a trip down memory lane to show you this teddy I made for Morgan years and years ago!

May I also add this was all hand stitched!

I cant believe we are in the month of December already! I am so excited and happy that Christmas is coming! and now I must show you our wonderful tree!

each decoration on the tree tells a story - the first decoration from my first boyfriend (Thank goodness he turned into my husband!), a beautiful "carers" decoration I got when I started my new job, handmade decorations... you get the point

On Friday in work, I had the job of putting up all the decorations in the nursing home, in fact this has been my job for the past four years!

Have you had enough of Christmas trees yet? well I finished work at 3pm on Friday and had plenty of time to go home and have a bath before I went out on our staff night out - we went to a local bistro/bar in Galway town

Last night I awoke at 4am as I was not feeling well at all - I got up and decided to watch a Christmas film to keep me busy, only I must have fallen asleep as I woke up then at 630am frozen stiff!! so after a sleep in I went along to the stitch group and then into town to run a few errands- I also had to go for an eye test as I lost my glasses a year ago and lately my eyes feel weak - I was told that my right eye is the same as it has always been but the left has reduced by 5percent, so this day next week I will have my new glasses!

We then decided to go and visit my parents house as Morgan had gotten a Chinese Lantern and wanted to let it off with the kids!

Tonight was the night that my Mum put up her decorations and she ended up giving me this - I have to say it has fast become one of my up most favorite decorations!

While in town today Morgan spotted these cat suits in Penny's (Primark) and I couldn't resist taking this photo although Hope looks unimpressed!

SO CUTE!

Yet again when reading my favorite blogs I came across this pattern for a scarf wreath on Michelle made this... here is how I made mine:

I got a chunky cheap scarf and I got some pretty accessorises in Penny's - you could use anything you have lay around the house, old ear rings, hair clips etc

next I took a normal wire coat hanger and shaped it into a circular shape

I dont own a glue gun, so instead i just wraped the scarf tightly and evenly around the hanger, tucking in the last section

Candy, Families, Cancer, Crafts and Engagements

Hello everyone, I want to first thank you for the get well wishes from my last post - I'm feeling much better although I am still aching, It has been a very busy week for me, working, visiting family etc, although I have not posted all week I have been snapping pictures, so be warned this is a very long post! Get your self nice and comfy, cup of tea in your hand and biscuits in reach and we can begin!
On Tuesday we called up to Morgans grandparents house Angela and Aidan Sr, to say goodbye to his uncle Aidan Jr, aunt Colleen and cousins Sally and Molly who were returning to the states the next day- Colleen was so very kind in giving us a great big bag of American candy! we cant get these in Ireland so it was a real treat!

I have NEVER tasted candy corn until now! I loved it and could eat it all day!

When we arrived it was lovely to see that all the family had turned out, so we were able to catch up with everyone. I enjoyed playing with Molly and Sally and getting to know them a little better.

after the evening it was time to head home and I couldn't believe it was almost midnight! I was shattered in work the next day!

We have also been very worried about our cat Hope, last year Hope lost her back leg to cancer and this week the remaining back leg was very swollen and she struggled to walk - We don't know if the cancer has returned - I have come to terms that she more then likely will need to be put down - it is very upsetting for me - for many years she has been such a comfort, When Morgan was in Dublin studying and I felt alone she was always there for a cuddle and always offered lots of love - we took her to the vet on Friday and was told to bring her back for an X-ray on Monday morning, until then they gave her a few shots in case its just an infection.

After we brought her home I decided we needed to go out and relax and so we went to the opening of the Christmas Market in Galway - it was dark and cold and the Christmas lights twinkled and the carols could be heard from every corner! - BLISS! below is a selection of short videos I took:

very quick project to make! In fact I decided to run a workshop making these in work for the elderly - and in one hour we had managed to make these:

In news this week Prince William and Kate finally got engaged! I have to say I for one think they make a lovely couple and I am in love with the dress she wore when they announced it

After much looking I found out the dress is by designer Issa and costs over 400 sterling! better take it off my Christmas list :(

And the ring - I think its stunning, It belonged to Princess Diane, My only thoughts on this is that it is opening Kate up to constantly being compared to the late Diane - take for example this picture

I think Kate has more of a back bone then what Diane had, Diane was after all only 21 when she was married to Charles, a man in love with another woman, I have had to laugh at myself right now because it sounds like I know and have an interest with the Royal family - which I dont - I do like style however, and I think Kate Middleton is a woman to watch!

Feeling Sick, Chocolate and Fairies!

Hi guys, best to read this post from a safe distance ... I'm not well, not sure why really, sore back and joints, headache, dry throat and sore gums and stuffed up nose :( feeling pretty darn sorry for myself in truth! last night we were hit by a storm and boy was it a big one! rain, hail lightening the lot! I was so unsettled all night, Both Morgan and I kept waking up as the weather hit and banged against the windows! I joked in work today that if this bad weather keeps up we will find ourselves in the land of Oz! so just call me Dorthy! he he.

After work today Morgan picked me up because the weather was so bad and we walked to the shop - thank goodness I was wrapped up because it was freezing, although the wind kept trying to steal my hat!

Crochet and My Home

Hi everyone, hope you are all keeping warm and snug on these cold evenings, I want to share a crochet project with you, I made this last December but only got round to taking photos today!, So I braved the icy weather to pose for these shots

I made this three in one scarf, I got the yarn from Barcelona, and added two wooden buttons

I love the colour of this yarn and the little gold sparkles in it is very seasonal!

You can also wear it around your waist

I also have been enjoying the ribbon embroidery, and created this little piece on Friday night

My Sister Shauna is doing a great job with her projects and hopefully I will have some photos to show you next week

At the moment I am reading the wonderful book Knot Sure - it is about the life of Irish fashion designer Cyrill Cullen, what an interesting man he was -

Having taught himself to knit for a 10-shilling bet in 1960. Cork-born Cyril Cullen went on to become one of Ireland’s most internationally renowned designers with creations described by John Rocha as ‘sophisticated, sometimes whimsical, and yet inherently Irish in tradition and execution’.

Today I will be making this hat, I just love it! isn't it so adorable!

This morning I woke up before 9AM, and cleaned up around the house, dusting and hovering and then I gave the fire a good clean out and polished and mopped, and I even baked a lovely Plum Crumble and I must say it smells gorgeous! now I am going to light the candles get into my new PJ's, and set up camp with my favorite pillow and blanket on the sofa and crochet while watching telly, I have just taken these pictures to share with you all My lovely and cozy sitting room -

Did everyone have a good Halloween then? We had such a good time and I have to say I never laughed so much in all my life- Thank God for my wonderful husband you had the brain to take lots of photos so that I could share our night with you all!

We started by spending the day with my family, where we had a lovely roast dinner and watched a little telly - then we started the fun and games!

We started by playing the Flour game, you pile the flour up and place a grape on the top, next each player take a turn by cutting away a bit of flour, and whoever knocks down the grape has to get their face dunked into the flour!!

Today I had a wonderful surprise, I picked up this months copy of crochet today and when I finally got round to sitting down to read it I could not believe that a letter I had sent in July was published!! and whats more is that it was published in the Letters we Love section, which means I get a year worth of free Crochet Today magazines!! I am beyond happy! how lucky am I?

I wrote the letter about how I enjoy the patterns in the magazine and how me and my best friend Melanie did the Snowyday Hat crochet along - and how we met etc

This however is not the first time that I have been on this page in Crochet Today- My husband sent in a letter back in May with photos of all the things I had crocheted for the wedding, this was such a surprise to me and its something I was so proud off!

Crochet wise I am working on this cardigan, it is very hard and the pattern is not wrote out that well, but Im getting there
